The SunPan G Spanish Gypsy- (G)- B C D D# F G G#
This scale is suitable for players who enjoy a spicy flavor, or scales in the Hijaz, Harmonic minor and Kurd range.
Slow meditative playing evokes a pensive and contemplative experience. All scales in the Hijaz family are well suited to percussive players, as improv can be easily centered around the ding, with occasional deviations on the side notes.
This rare and historic instrument is handcrafted to the standards of modern players.
The Sunpan stands out among the current handpan offerings as one of the most unique and historic instruments.
Built by Marti Gronmayer, the SunPan is a historically significant handpan built in Germany.
Marti was one of the first people to experiment with stainless steel. Long before Ayasa took on the role as a stainless shell exporters, Marti was hand hammering shells in his van.
To this day, these instruments are still created with hand-hammered shells, hand-shaped notes and beautifully colored finish.
Sunpans are one of the most distinct sounding handpans in the world, tuned with an octave, rather than Octave and fifth.
Early on, SunPan diverged from the traditional HandPan design by incorporating bottoms made of a metallic-mesh material. Over time, they have transitioned to using 'Gu-style' bottoms, which are now commonplace in the industry. This, combined with Marti's improved tuning abilities, has resulted in what I believe to be a progressively melodious and charming HandPan.
The soft borders, internal dampening (for the ding's shoulders) and the use of bolts to hold the Sunpan together, all result in a very full, embodied, integrated instrument.
